The following test is for personal development only and should not be used for hiring or selection purposes.

Video-Based Office and Interpersonal Competence Test

Please read these brief instructions. At the top of each page will be a window in which a short video will load. Once the video is loaded, click the "play" button to see and hear the scenario. You may need to adjust the volume on your speakers or headset in order to be able to clearly hear the dialog. You may use the video controls on the player to replay the video if necessary.

Once you have finished viewing the video, read the question in the box beneath it that pertains to the video. Next read each of the four possible responses to the question and mark the response that -- in your opinion -- would be the most effective response. There are 26 scenarios, each one averaging sixty seconds in length.

Do not use the back button in an attempt to return to previous scenario. Please only move forward through the exercise until it is complete. Once you begin the assessment, please continue until you are done. If you are idle (leave your computer inactive) for over fifty minutes, your session will time out and you will have to begin again.

Instructions: Welcome to this video based test. You are about to view several short videos designed to measure Office and Interpersonal Competence. At the end of each video you will be asked to select both the most effective and least effective way that the target employee should respond from a list of four options. The target employee is the person whose image will remain on the screen at the end of each video.

The most effective response is the one which, in general, reflects the most appropriate behavior on the part of the target employee in terms of communication, politeness, interpersonal interaction, demonstrating sound judgment, and addressing the needs of others.

The least effective response is the one which, in general, reflects the least appropriate behavior on the part of the target employee. It is important that you treat each scenario independently. Many of the same employees appear in multiple videos and, as in real life, assume different roles. Your responses should reflect only the most recent work situation presented to you.
